Stellan Skarsgård (, Swedish: [ˈstɛ̂lːan ˈskɑ̌ːʂɡoːɖ] ( audio speaker icon mind ); born xiii June 1951) is a Swedish actor. He is known for his roles as Helm Viktor Tupolev in spy motion-picture show The Hunt for Red October (1990), Jan Nyman in drama motion picture Breaking the Waves (1996), Professor Gerald Lambeau in drama film Good Will Hunting (1997), Gregor in action film Ronin (1998), Cerdic in historical movie King Arthur (2004), Male parent Lankester Merrin in horror film Exorcist: The Offset (2004) and Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist (2005), Bootstrap Bill Turner in fantasy film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World'southward Finish (2007), Bill Anderson in musical film Mamma Mia! (2008) and the sequel Mamma Mia! Early life

Skarsgård was built-in in Gothenburg, the son of Gudrun (née Larsson; built-in 1930) and Jan Skarsgård (1920–1998).[2] [3] He moved oftentimes in his babyhood and lived, amongst other places, in Helsingborg, Totebo, Kalmar, Marielund, and Uppsala.[4]

Acting career

Skarsgård started his acting career early; and, by the historic period of 21, his experience in flick, Television set and stage was considerable.[v] About of his early roles were in Swedish television (such every bit Bombi Bitt) and films. Alexander, Gustaf, Bill, and Valter are also actors, while Eija is a erstwhile model.[sixteen] Skarsgård and My divorced in May 2007. Views on organized religion

Skarsgård was brought up by humanist, atheist[23] parents, and had an atheist grandfather and a securely religious grandmother. According to Skarsgård, this never led to any issues because of the family unit'southward common respect for each other's opinions.[24] After the 11 September attacks, Skarsgård set out to read the Bible and the Quran, both of which he condemns every bit violent.[24] Skarsgård is besides a critic of religious independent schools in the Swedish educational organisation.[24] He has said he considers the notion of God cool and that if a real God were actually so vain as to constantly demand worship, then he would not exist worthy of it.[24]
